I Miss Exercise

I really do miss exercise. I never, ever thought I’d say that. I’m one of those people who finds no pleasure in any form of exercise. Not yoga or running or biking. Not for me. At least not in my past life.

A few years ago, I tried to start exercising. It was at that point that my health problems were starting. Every time I’d start an exercise routine, I’d keep it for about a week, then get so fatigued and sick that I couldn’t continue. Now, even a 5 minute walk wipes me out. Sometimes I think about what it would be like to have a real exercise routine. You know, 30 minutes a day, 3 or 4 times a week. Something that I really enjoy doing, that gets me outside. Sometimes I even think what it would be like to train for one of those half marathons and run it with a friend. Something that I never considered to be “fun” now sounds like Christmas to me. If I ever get to that point, I’ll be over the moon with excitement.

For now, my exercise routines are getting out of bed in the morning and taking a shower. My half marathons are a rare short trip to a friend’s house. I’m learning to be really proud of myself for those accomplishments. And to be especially thankful to God when I can do them. Because, seriously, with a chronic illness, just getting dressed for the day deserves a medal!

I know the feeling, it can be really tough. I just started doing yoga my first form of exercise in ten months and it hasn’t been easy. You will get there. Focus on your health and the rest will come.

Thank you for your encouragement! Sometimes I try to push myself to do some kind of mild exercise, and I usually regret it, so it will have to wait until I’m better.
